It’s not often one sits down to dine with the likes of James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Raquel Welch gazing down at you. But that’s what happens at The Elephant and Castle Hotel in Geelong.

Purchased earlier this year by locally-born and world-renown celebrity photographer Darryn Lyons the hotel has fast become one of Geelong’s major attractions due to its stunning refurbishment and home to one of the country’s most-prized photographic collections, Images Of Our Time.

The exhibition which features many iconic photographs that can be purchased include the infamous mug shot of Hugh Grant and Divine Brown, a candid snap of Marilyn Monroe and one of Her Majesty of which I am sure she is not amused.

But don’t just let the photographs on the wall distract you, the Elephant and Castle also has a menu of fine food available. Chef Damien is really passionate about fresh produce and takes full advantage of Geelong and the surrounding regions to produce the current menu. Along with food there is also an extensive wine list and friendly staff.

A HOTEL WITH OVER 130 YEARS OF HISTORY

The Elephant & Castle Hotel has been situated on Mckillop Street since 1870 when a gentleman by the name of John Richards first acquired the license. The current front of the building was built in 1891 and is still seen today. The pub has had many licensees over the 100 years of operation, but one thing has stayed the same – the gentle family atmosphere. So when Mr Paparazzi DARRYN LYONS took over the license in early 2012 the same foundation remained but with a modern flair.
